Grâce a Étienne qui s'est chargé des trois premiers articles, la
traduction de la DPN a bien avancé hier. Il reste encore quelques

<h2>Publication de Debian 6.0 <q>Squeeze</q> prévue pour ce week-end</h2>

<p>Le responsable de publication Neil McGovern a annoncé la <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/20110118193635.GC4061@halon.org.uk";>\
date de publication de Debian 6.0 <q>Squeeze</q></a> : le week-end prochain,
le week-end du 5 et 6 février. Debian 6.0 <q>Squeeze</q> sera enfin publiée en
tant que version stable ! Les travaux finaux ont commencé, notamment les
préparations pour les <a
href="http://wiki.debian.org/ReleasePartySqueeze";>célébrations de la
publication</a> partout dans le monde !</p>

<p>Pour les membres de la communauté attendant la publication avec impatience, <a
href="http://news.debian.net/2011/01/22/join-us-in-the-countdown-to-squeeze/";>news.debian.net</a>
fournit une <a
href="http://news.debian.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/squeeze_countdown.png";>bannière
de compte à rebours</a>. Comme le processus de publication prend un certain temps,
les membres du projet Debian partageront en direct des commentaires et des faits

<p>Un nombre intéressant a déjà été remarqué : pendant
les deux ans de développement de Debian 6.0 <q>Squeeze</q>, <a
href="http://blog.schmehl.info/Debian/bugs-closed-for-squeeze";>le projet Debian a
fermé 149 862 bogues</a>. Merci à tous pour ce travail fantastique !</p>

<h2>Rejoignez l'équipe DebConf</h2>

<p><a href="http://www.debconf.org/";>DebConf</a> est une conférence annuelle
pour la communauté Debian. Comme tout le reste au sein du projet Debian, DebConf
est entièrement gérée par des bénévoles. Comme vous pouvez l'imaginer,
l'organisation d'une conférence représente un travail important ; il n'est donc pas
étonnant de voir l'équipe DebConf accueillir avec enthousiasme toute aide
extérieure. Comme l'écrit Richard Darst :

L'organisation de DebConf est un processus énorme</a>, et toute aide serait la
bienvenue pour beaucoup de choses. Les gens vont et
viennent, et sont souvent surmenés après un an ou deux ; c'est pourquoi nous
apprécierions énormément voir de nouvelles personnes s'investir. Si vous
avez de nouvelles idées, nous adorerions les entendre et en discuter pour savoir
si elles peuvent fonctionner, et comment les réaliser. � propos, si vous cherchez un
bon moyen pour vous investir dans Debian mais ne savez pas par où commencer,
ce pourrait être une des meilleures solutions !</q></p>

<h2>Brèves de l'équipe en charge de la sécurité</h2>

<p>Thijs Kinkhorst a envoyé des <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/201101232332.11736.thijs@debian.org";>nouvelles de
l'équipe de sécurité Debian</a> concernant la rencontre de l'équipe au <a
href="http://www.linuxhotel.de/";>Linux Hotel</a> à Essen, en Allemagne. Parmi
les points discutés figuraient des améliorations de la méthode de travail de
l'équipe, en particulier pour le processus de publication des alertes de
sécurité Debian (entièrement repensé), un suivi en sécurité plus long de
la version stable de Debian (encore à l'état de proposition), et un suivi
en sécurité des rétroportages. Le compte-rendu mentionne également d'autres
sujets intéressants, comme les tests bêta (« beta testing ») des mises à jour
de sécurité, l'inclusion d'un fichier README.test dans les paquets pour
expliquer comment en tester les fonctionnalités, et le problème de certains
paquets spécifiques difficiles à gérer à cause des nombreux paquets source
qu'ils contiennent. Le message se termine par un appel à volontaires. Pour plus

<p>Sur le même sujet, Simon Paillard, de l'équipe en charge des miroirs, a
donné quelques <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/20110126221211.GA8460@toshi";>nouvelles des
sponsors des miroirs Debian</a>. En particulier, il demande de l'aide pour
fournir plus de miroirs officiels de l'archive de sécurité. Il est intéressé
notamment pour de nouveaux miroirs officiels en Amérique du Sud, en Asie et en
Afrique.</p>

<h2>Publication de la mise à jour de Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.8</h2>

<p>
Une nouvelle <a href="$(HOME)/News/2011/20110122">mise à jour de la
distribution stable Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 <q>Lenny</q></a> a été publiée.

Cette mise à jour corrige principalement des problèmes de sécurité
dans la distribution stable ainsi que quelques problèmes critiques.

<h2>Publication de l'installateur Debian 6.0 RC2</h2>

<p>
La deuxième version candidate de l'installateur pour Debian <q>Squeeze</q> a été <a
href="$(HOME)/devel/debian-installer/News/2011/20110122">publiée le 22 janvier</a>.

Plusieurs corrections ont été apportées à cette version, comme la
configuration du clavier pour l'installateur graphique dans plusieurs langues.

Les <a href="$(HOME)/devel/debian-installer/errata">errata</a>
rassemblent des précisions et une liste complète des problèmes connus.

Merci de bien vouloir essayer l'installateur et signaler des bogues ; les
supports d'installation et autres renseignements sont disponibles sur les

Dans le même thème, Matthew Palmer a annoncé la mise en place
d'images pour essayer l'<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/20110121035943.GK3846@hezmatt.org";>\
installateur Debian avec prise en charge IPv6</a> (utilisable sur
les réseaux exclusivement en IPv6) et d'autres pour essayer l'<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/20110124104234.GH20367@hezmatt.org";>\
installateur avec prise en charge WPA</a>.

Il lance un appel pour essayer ces deux images.

<h2>Brèves de Debian GIS</h2>

<p>
La liste de diffusion pour les discussions à propos du système
d'information géographique dans Debian à été migré d'Alioth vers <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-gis/";>lists.debian.org</a>.

Comme d'habitude sur <tt>lists.debian.org</tt>, il n'est pas
nécessaire d'être inscrit pour poster, le nom est plus
générique et devrait permettre d'attirer plus d'utilisateurs de GIS
et de développeurs Debian pour aborder les problème pertinents.
</p>
<p>
Le mélange (<q>Blend</q>) Debian GIS a défini une nouvelle
tâche <q>RSO et observation terrestre</q> sur sa <a
href="http://blends.alioth.debian.org/gis/tasks";>page de tâches</a> qui contient
une liste de paquets non encore officiels qui pourraient être intégrés à Debian.

N'hésitez pas à discuter de cette tâche ou d'autres idées que
vous pourriez avoir à propos des paquets GIS correspondants
sur la liste de diffusion précédemment évoquée.

	de recherche de bogues dans la base de données ultime Debian

	Debian 6.0 <q>Squeeze</q> est actuellement touchée par
8 bogues critiques pour la publication. En ignorant les bogues qui peuvent être
	facilement résolus ou qui sont en train de l'être, il reste environ
5 bogues critiques pour la publication à corriger avant que la prochaine
	version ne puisse paraître.</p>

<h2><q>Squeeze</q> Deep Freeze</h2>

<p>Neil McGovern writes in an <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/20101213202220.GF3191@halon.org.uk";>recent
email</a>:
<q>Following the plan outlined in the <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/20101114192542.GC3191@halon.org.uk";>previous
release update</a>, we are 
now in deep freeze, which means that we'll only be migrating to testing 
packages that fix RC bugs.</q> A deep freeze is one of the last phases
before a release of Debian. There is lots of bug fixing and documentation
still to do and you can help. Check out the <a
href="http://wiki.debian.org/NewInSqueeze";>New in <q>Squeeze</q> page</a>
for example; and if you
find bugs in the installer help report and even fix them. </p>

<h2>Debian Installer 6.0 RC1 release</h2>

<p>
The first release candidate of the installer for Debian Squeeze was <a
href="http://www.debian.org/News/2011/20110113";>released
on January 12</a>.
Many fixes are included in this release of the installer, along with new
improvements: better OS and partition detection, new supported hardware, etc.

collects details and a full list of known issues.
You are encouraged to test the installer and report bugs;
media and further information are available on the <a
href="http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer";>Debian Installer

<h2>Debian 6.0 <q>Squeeze</q> to be released with completely free Linux kernel</h2>

<p>As the Debian project announced, the upcoming stable release Debian 6.0
<q>Squeeze</q> will be shipped with a <a
href="http://www.debian.org/News/2010/20101215";>completely free Linux
kernel</a> - thus achieving a long term goal which was already set for
Debian 4.0 <q>Etch</q> and 5.0 </q>Lenny</q>.  Thanks to the work of the
<a href="http://wiki.debian.org/DebianKernel";>Debian Kernel team</a> and
various upstream Linux developers, non-free firmware files have been split
off; instead of being integral parts of the kernel, these files may now be
shipped separately and loaded at runtime if needed.  This provides a
free system to those who wish to have one, while allowing those who
need the non-free firmware files still to use them.</p>

<p>Steve McIntyre, lead of Debian's CD team, added that <a 
href="http://blog.einval.com/2010/12/15#CDs_with_firmware";>unofficial CD
images</a> have been created, containing non-free but distributable firmware
files, while USB-installations have already supported loading additional
firmware files for some time.  More details can be found in the <a
href="http://wiki.debian.org/Firmware";>Debian wiki</a>.</p>

<p>Debian Project leader Stefano Zacchiroli also blogged a bit about the <a
href="http://upsilon.cc/~zack/blog/posts/2010/12/squeeze_your_non-free_firmware_away/";>background
of the changes</a>.</p>

<h2>Machine-readable format for debian/copyright files</h2>

<p>Lars Wirzenius <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/1294581615.20273.71.camel@havelock.lan";>announced</a>
that <a hred="http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep5/";>Debian Enhancement
Proposal 5, specifying a machine-readable
format for the copyright information of a Debian package</a>, has reached
<q>candidate</q> status, meaning that discussion about the format has been
settled and no major changes are expected anymore: it is ready to be
used.</p>

<p><a href="$(HOME)/doc/debian-policy/">Debian's policy</a> mandates that Debian
software packages must come with copyright information of the source
code used, but no specific format is mandated.  Most packages come with a
freeform text file, making it hard to process this information
automatically.</p>

<h2>Bits from the Debian Project Leader</h2>

<p>Debian Project Leader Stefano Zacchiroli sent new <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/20101224144600.GA336@upsilon.cc";>bits from
the DPL</a>.  Besides mentioning various talks and interviews he gave, he
announced a new contact point for participants at Debian events:
<a href="mailto:antiharassment@debian.org";>antiharassment@debian.org</a>.  An
anti-harassment policy for Debian sprints (based upon a draft for such a
policy for <a
href="http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/StandardsOfRespect";>DebConf</a>) is about
to follow soon.</p>

<p>He also mentioned that he had approved two sprints, one for the Web Team
(which has already been taken place) and one for the Security Team (which
is forthcoming), as well as several cross-distribution collaboration
activities, such as <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/20101223084135.GB15864@upsilon.cc";>organizing
a cross-distro face to face meeting to discuss the topic of integrating
third party applications</a> on top of FOSS distributions, &agrave; la
Software Center/App Store.</p>

<h2>Further documentation on Emdebian: components and filters</h2>

<p>Continuing his intermittent series on Emdebian, <a
href="http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/serendipity/index.php?/archives/218-Documenting-Emdebian-components-and-filters.html";>Neil
Williams described Emdebian's concepts of components and filters</a>.  As
the package data files of Debian's main distribution have become too large to be
sanely handled on embedded systems, Emdebian Grip therefore subdivides
Debian's main repository to minimize cached data, so that systems not using any
Java components (for instance) don't need to download and cache metadata
for Java-related packages. Neil also explained in detail further filtering
techniques used by Emdebian.</p>

<h2>Two new Debian Women tutorials</h2>

<p>The Debian Women project published two new tutorials.  In the first
tutorial Gerfried
Fuchs gave an <a href="http://wiki.debian.org/HowtoUseBTS";>introduction
to Debian's bug tracking system</a>, including
explanation of the different tags and usage of package version information
by the bug tracking system.
<br/>
In the second tutorial, Enrico
Zini introduced the <a
href="http://wiki.debian.org/DebianPackageInformation";>various
information sources about Debian
packages</a>, ranging from data available through Debian's package
repositories, over debtags and various package tracking tools to the
package tracking system.

<p>Luca Capello announced that the <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/87pqsb78np.fsf@gismo.pca.it";>annual
general meeting</a> of <a
href="http://debian.ch/";>debian.ch</a>, the official representation of
the Debian project in Switzerland and in the Principality of Liechtenstein,
will take place on January 31 in Aareheim in the center of Bern.</p>

<p>
Sjoerd Simons <a 
href="http://sjoerd.luon.net/posts/2010/12/pkg_pulseaudio_needs_you/";>
asked for help</a> in <a
href="https://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-pulseaudio/";>
PulseAudio Debian packaging</a>.

Richard Darst reported about the <a
href="http://debian-administration.org/users/rkd/weblog/12";>
successful first Debian-NYC Novice Night</a>, which is a meeting for
everyone who would like to install or configure Debian for their own needs.
The next session will probably be <a

in January or February</a>; some <a
href="http://wiki.debian.org/DebianNYC/NoviceNights/Planning";>
planning hints</a> are also in place.

Sandro Tosi mentioned on his blog that <a
href="http://sandrotosi.blogspot.com/2010/12/bts-link-has-new-home.html";>bts-link
has a new home</a>. Several weeks ago, in fact, <a
href="http://bts-link.alioth.debian.org/";>bts-link</a> was migrated from
merkel.debian.org to busoni.debian.org.

<p>
Christian Perrier noticed that <a
href="http://www.perrier.eu.org/weblog/2010/12/21#german-french-100percent-squeeze";>German
and French localization reached 100% for po-debconf</a>.
Russian, Swedish, Portuguese, and Czech localization may also be able
to make it, while Spanish probably won't this time.

<p>
Stefano Zacchiroli collected various existing pieces of
documentation in order to answer the question <q><a
href="http://upsilon.cc/~zack/blog/posts/2010/12/how_to_contribute_to_Debian/";>how
to contribute to Debian?</a></q>, and pointed to the <a
href="http://www.debian.org/intro/help";>official contribution
page of the website</a>, and its equivalent on the <a
href="http://wiki.debian.org/HelpDebian";>wiki</a> and in the <a
href="http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/ch-contributing.en.html";>FAQ</a>.
He also highlighted less documented <q>cultural</q> aspects
of Debian technical life such as coordination over IRC
or interacting with package maintainers via the BTS.

<p>Raphael Geissert <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/201012161200.31008.geissert@debian.org";>announced</a>
the <a href="http://qa.debian.org/daca/";><q>Debian Automated Code
Analysis</q> (DACA) project</a>, which runs various source code quality
tools over all Debian source packages available.</p>

<h2>Release-critical bugs statistics for the upcoming release</h2>

	<p>According to the <a href="http://udd.debian.org/bugs.cgi";>Bugs Search
        interface of the Ultimate Debian Database</a>, the upcoming release,
	Debian 6.0 <q>Squeeze</q>, is currently affected by
46 release-critical bugs. Ignoring bugs which are easily solved
	or on the way to being solved, roughly speaking, about
20 release-critical bugs remain to be solved for the
	release to happen.</p>

	<p>There are also <a
href="http://blog.schmehl.info/Debian/rc-stats/#2011-02";>more detailed
	statistics</a> as well as some <a
	href="http://wiki.debian.org/ProjectNews/RC-Stats";>hints on how to
	interpret</a> these numbers.</p>
