Thanks for spotting that.

In fact I'd also lost track of the fact that this particular thread is
about changes to the *installer* guide rather than the release notes.

 + <sect1 id="misc-adaptions">
 + <title>Miscellaneous adaptions</title>
 +<para>
+You may make custom adaptions of the installation process, to make it fit
 +your needs:
 +</para>

Another vote against "adaption" (I've heard people use it, but usually
because they're confusing "adapt" and "adopt"). You've also got an
odd use of "may", and a slightly clunky repetition of "make" where all
you really need to say is something like "The installation process can
be adapted to fit your needs". Except that this doesn't really feel
to me like a good way to try to fit the section into its context.

Philip Hands suggested the section would fit with its neighbours
better as

   <title>Variations requiring manual intervention</title>

which may be true, but this brings to my attention the point that it
seems to be promising to list plural variationS whereas in fact we've
only got this one. Another problem with "manual intervention" is that
the installer guide tends to use the word "manual" to mean just "less
automated" - as in "manual" versus "guided" partitioning.

The more I look at the way the sections are organised the more I think
that the real problem is that "6.3.9 Troubleshooting" is already a
misfit. There needs to be some clearer mention in 6.1 of the fact
that jumping to VT2 lets you issue commands behind d-i's back; the
only place that's explained is the "Troubleshooting" section, which
has been included in the list of d-i components where it doesn't
really belong. If that was fixed, maybe there would be a natural
place to put a section on custom variations in the installation
process.

It clearly is permitted to promote things out of that list of
components into separate sections, since after all that's what has
been done with section 6.4 "Loading Missing Firmware", which has been
promoted out of 6.3.1 "Setting up Debian Installer and Hardware
Configuration". So maybe a 6.5 "Troubleshooting and Customization"?

Unfortunately this would necessarily be a long way from the sort of
minimal patch that people were hoping for...
