Bug#616363: Please use dbconfig-common instead of custom scripts

Package: convirt
Version: 2.0.1-1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-l10n-english@lists.debian.org, bubulle@debian.org

Dear maintainer,

The Debian internationalisation team and the Debian English
localisation team propose a review of the debconf templates used in convirt.

From the proposal:

However, I propose that instead of handling database changes manually, you
make use of the dbconfig-common helper scripts. This has many advantages:

 - the two templates you have defined become redundant, so translators need
not work on yet another set of templates
 - dbconfig-common will handle for you all aspects of installation,
upgrade and removal in a consistent manner, and deal with errors in a
   graceful way
 - dbconfig-common can handle multiple database engines
 - templates in dbconfig-common are already reviewed and translated into
   most or all languages

Since the only two templates we plan to review would be made redundant by
this action, you could avoid a dependency on debconf and avoid maintaning
your own templates, translations and database management code.

If you decide not to take this step, please tag this bug wontfix and tell
me, and we will begin review of your templates.

Thanks,
