Another one: A database is the files|set of files where data are stored. A database server is the machine hosting the databases AND the serving software A database server software is the software that handles data and serves it (MySQL, etc.) In short, a database server hosts a database server software that handles one or more databases....:-) By experience, all this is often mixed in various ways in packages, the most common mistake being calling "database" the software. --
