I couldn't figure out how to stop X crashing trying to start with a normal boot,
so tried booting with 2 on cmdline to try with startx, first alone, then with
startx /usr/bin/startkde. The attachements are Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old.

X works as expected with openSUSE/LXQt and Buster/TDE, but only when
video=SVIDEO-1:d is on kernel cmdline, so I use it with Knoppix too.
That results in X startup producing only a black screen that periodically
blinks.
The other reason to start with 2 was to try installing to HD, but as yet I
haven't found a howto for doing so.
