Re: USB stick booting

I posted this back in March.  Ignore the line about v7.0.5.  Anyway, I tried installing v7.2.0 to HD on an old computer.  The install went fine, but I got a Master Boot Record Error.  I tried using grub to fix the problem, but I got an error message.  It said something to the effect of something corrupted in stage 2.  I'm sorry that I don't remember the exact error message.  I poked about on the internet, but didn't find a solution that worked.  I solved the problem by installing v7.0.5 instead.  That version booted fine.

Anyway, this makes me think that something in the boot record was broken by v7.2.0 since neither the USB stick nor a HD install would boot.  Of course, the DVD boots fine.  Has anyone else had similar problems?

Subject: USB stick booting

I have a USB stick which boots v7.0.4 fine.
I have a USB stick for v7.0.5 which doesn't boot and windows boots as if it wasn't there. The stick works fine except that it doesn't boot.
I have a USB stick for v7.2.0 which hangs with no error messages when I try to boot from it.  The stick works fine except that it doesn't boot.

The DVDs I used to make them boot properly, of course. I used the menu selection to make the v7.2.0 one. I probably used the script for the others, but I really don't recall.

How can I fix this?

Thanks,

Jim
