Knoppis does not write anything to any disk by default, thats why your
settings are not saved when you boot from CD or DVD.
If you use the "Flash Knoppix" utility from the "preferences" menu, you
can create a bootable USB flashdisk, and it will ask you if you wish to
create an overlay for storing personal data, files and configurations
(optionally, encrypted for safety, in case your disk gets lost
somewhere).
Once you answerd the overlay question (I would recommend to use about
2GB as overlay, of your usb flashpen has enough capacity), all settings
and changes will be permanently stored on the flash pen, so the system
beaves very much like a regular harddisk installation.
