configur the network

i go through with network setting tool to configure internet connection.after
followed the steps, eventually it wasn't work i mean internet is not
working.hear i am using ADSL connection.when i try to activate
ehernetconnection, it pops up the error massage. so ple reply me how sort
out  the problem.u will be highly appreciated.
