Maybe "just" a bad DMA controller. Have you tried booting with
knoppix nodma
or
knoppix acpi=off noapic pnpbios=off pci=bios nodma
?

It looks like reading the DVD was OK until a certain point, then the
attempt to make the DVD "writable" by adding a ramdisk over it, failed.
his can be caused by eiher lack of ram, or simply read errors, which can
be caused by physical read errors (unlikely, since you checked the DVD)
or data transfer errors due to a controller or BIOS bug. The above
options can help. If they fail, please try to boot with
debug
and leave each intermediate step with "exit", and watch out for "cloop
read errors". If you see any of these, the drive simply has problems
reading the DVD. In which case, you should maybe try with a different
DVD+/-R manufacturer.
Also, please burn the CD or DVD with low speed (about 8x for CD, 2x for
DVD), so that the burned surface looks OK and does not "fade out" at the
outter tracks.
