Knoppix 4.0.2-CD very slow

I ran a testcd and it turned up multiple "file not found"
errors...even though the files are right there. (huh?) It came up OK
on the KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX file. Dmesg doesn't return anything which looks
like it could be cause for slowdown. I'm going to experiment with a
swap file and see if this helps me.
