Soundcard.. then no soundcard

Hi,

Knoppix v4.0

My soundcard works fine when booting from the DVD, but is absent and
won't autodetect on a Debian-type install.

In Control Centre I get an "artsmessage", error while initialising
sound driver.

dmesg complained about irqs and suggested using pci=usepirqmask. I did
this, and the boot note went away, but still no audio :-(

dmesg shows it's there, and lspci. See below.

I found an old note, but it doesn't seem to apply any longer:

Q: Why doesn't my sound work?

A: Just run "/etc/init.d/alsa-autoconfig" as root once and you'll be
fixed up nicely. To have the sound levels set at boot (alsa defaults
to muted) edit the file "/etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh" and add aumix -w 75
-v 75 to the bottom of the file.

Best,
Marc
