You can use the Debian install procedure with Knoppix 3.6 as well.

Workaround for now:

update-rc.d rmnologin start 99 1 2 3 4 5 .
update-rc.d bootmisc.sh start 55 S .

Afterwards you should be able to just stop the PC and it will still work. 
(after reboot of course)
