console goes blank
We have about 60 PCs running Knoppix at the office and its been really nice.
A new problem however showed up when we switch to an flat panel monitor
on these older desktop computers. Basically if we boot into console mode
i.e. KNOPPIX 2 at the boot prompt, the screen goes blank. The monitor
puts up a quick diagnostic that the video mode requested is not supported.
If I wait until the CDROM light goes out and then manually start X windows
(while not seeing what I'm typing), X windows starts fine. Booting Knoppix
in normal runlevel 5 also works fine.
Its just console mode thats broke (Includes hitting cntrl-alt-F1, etc).
Is there a boot option that allows me to specify the video mode used
for the console text? If memory serves, I thought it picks one from the
BIOS but of course, the BIOS in this computer knows nothing about the flat
panel monitor.
Note that LILO boot screen is fine and the help text (F2, F3) displays fine.
Its only after the kernel loads that the screen goes blank.
I didn't see anything in the forums on this. Any help would be appreciated.
