ifconfig problems-dhcpcd hangs up at boot.
Slackware 10 boots OK and recognizes the first (top) ethernet card as eth0,
interrupt 11 address 0XD800. Call this card A.
It also finds the second card and labels it eth1, interrupt 10 0xD400. Call
this card B.
My cable connection is connected to card A so I get on line with no problem.
My Slack is set up to send a dhcpcd probe on eth0.
Knoppix 3.3 and 3.4 boot OK, send out dhcpcd probes in background, and these
probes eventually recognize card A as eth1, (not eth0) and set up the cable
connection.
Knoppix 6, Knoppix 7, Sebastian Rahtz's version etc. all hang up on the
dhcpcd step.
I tried switching the cables but they still hang up on the dhcpcd step. .
Adelphi.net recently gave me a new cable modem and made other unspecified
changes in their system. I can still get Slack to work. But no recent
Knoppix works.
Any hints or suggestions?
