Midi ports work under knoppix?

Does anybody know if its possible to run rosegarden
(included in knoppix) using the midi ports?

I have 3 midi interfaces (2 use the joystick midi port
of the soundcard, and 1 is USB), and knoppix does not
autodetect any of them. So rosegarden is
non-functional.

I don't know if I should be trying to use OSS by
default or the ALSA cheatcode - if anybody can help
get me on the right track, please help!  Thanks!
