Re: Preliminary release plan (was Re: [debian-knoppix] new version)
ho!
fresh teasers, much obliged, dear santa klaus...
- Some more interactive options for selecting language/services on
bootup via dialog menus.
may i suggest this dialog behave in an 'display manager' like way and
pop
up again after log-out, permitting reconfiguration, starting another
session, eject (shutdown) and reboot. having the machine automatically
turn off when the X dies is a minor annoyance on cd, but rather worse
when installed to harddisk in knoppix mode (to preserve hw autoconfig).
and i also realize this automatism is a feature in its own which maybe
needs preserving for some application.
in a minor digression one machine here today has 16 days uptime running
from a CD. for many things a shell, browser and X server go a long way.
- NTFS write support by using a linux kernel loader for native
windows ntfs.sys (if present on the corresponding ntfs partition).
1. knoppix, 2. total world domination, 3. profit!!!
- Experiments with an overlay file system to allow easier on-the-fly
installations of new software and possibly eliminating the need of
a
separate /ramdisk virtual partition.
i guess this would also mean logs and modified etc files could be
'kept' on such a persistent overlay? looks sweet... if installing
works, i recommend also including apt-iselect
LF
