	I had this problem, too. I could dial-up when using the CD, but not when I 
installed it to m HD. In my case, it turns out that after installation, the 
/etc/network/interfaces file still had the lines for ethernet access; I 
hypothesize that the system, seeing those lines, was tring to communicate 
over eth0 rather than ppp0. In any case, the solution was simple: comment out 
any lines in /etc/network/interfaces except these two:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

And try again.
