Subject: [debian-knoppix] Software recommendations for LinuxTag DVD edition?

Hello everyone,

The (probably) last version of Knoppix before LinuxTag 2003
has just been released: 2003-06-06 (changelog at
http://download.linuxtag.org/knoppix/KNOPPIX-CHANGELOG.txt).

We are currently planning a DVD edition of Knoppix for LinuxTag 2003
(http://www.linuxtag.org/2003/en/index.html).

For this, I would like to know which software you would like to see
on a "full featured" version. Uncompressed space available is about
6 GB (currently in use: 2.7 GB), so the compressed image will roughly
need 2.2 GB of space on a 4.7 GB medium, if not too much data is
already in compressed format.

I didn't comprehend this calulation, but I'll nevertheless submit my
suggestions:

* the *complete* GNOME 2.2 suite
* the *complete* KDE 3.1.2 suite
* Samba 3.0 beta1 (as well as Samba 2.2.8a or 2.2.9)

Specifically:

* skli (part of KDE kdenonbeta, GUI frontend to scli; scli is on Knoppix already)
* CUPS 1.1.19
* all NX libraries from www.nomachine.com (NX is an extremely efficient
  X Window compression and caching technology, making remote X session
  possible at modem speed connections)
* OpenOffice.org 1.1betaX (as well as 1.0.3 stable)
* lire (http://www.logreport.org/) -- generates statistical reports from
  all kinds of log files in various formats.
* distcc 2.5.1 and ccache 2.2 (ccache.samba.org)#
* hpijs 1.4
* flphoto (http://www.easysw.com/~mike/flphoto/) -- very nice photo printing
  (and album creating) software.
* epm 3.6 (http://www.easysw.com/epm/) -- a meta package builder (creates RPMs,
  *.debs and most UNIX package formats (including Mac OS X packages) from the
  same source files).
* htmldoc 1.8.23 (http://www.easysw.com/htmldoc/) -- creates very nice PDF from
  HTML input (runs as commandline program or via GUI, also runs as a CGI program)

Cheers,
Kurt
