[debian-knoppix] problems installing gdm and gnome

Colleagues,

I am having problems installing gdm and gnome on my system. I keep getting
dependency errors that cite mismatched versions. My Knoppix CD is about
three months old. Are there any land mines I should be aware of in this
work?

PS.  When I first installed Debian from the Knoppix CD  (on another
machine, about 3 months ago), I was able to do the gdm/gnome install with
no problems.
