i found out that if you've installed knoppix onto hdd, then first :
apt-get update ; apt-get install -t unstable koshell konqueror konsole
and *only then* apt-get dist-upgrade will perfectly upgrade kde, except for
a few
packages (ksysgard e.g.) YMMV
