[debian-knoppix] integration of wipe/thc-secure delete
Hello,
what about adding the following tools which can securely erase files and
partitions/harddisks?
They are very small (all static binaries of all tools below mentioned
together have about 110 KB), they all run only from command line.
If someone asks why only one tool it is not enough - they are all very
specialised:
The "THC Secure Delete" tools do very specific things for example securely
erasing RAM and unused
disk space. "Wipe" from Berke Durak is very simple to use for beginners,
"Wipe" from Sourceforge is more designed for experts and has many options.
1) BERKE DURAK WIPE:
http://gsu.linux.org.tr/wipe/
Wipe is under the GNU Public License.
2) TOM VIER WIPE:
http://wipe.sourceforge.net/
Licensed under the GNU Public License.
Copyright (C) 1998-2002 by Thomas M. Vier, Jr. All Rights Reserved.
3)THC SECURE DELETE:
http://www.thc.org/download.php?t=r&d=secure_delete-3.0.tar.gz
they consist of four tools:
SRM does secure deletion of files.
SFILL does a secure overwriting of the unused diskspace on the harddisk.
SSWAP does a secure overwriting and cleaning of the swap filesystem.
SMEM does a secure overwriting of unused memory (RAM)
note that SFILL is the only UNIX tool (beside the possibility of using GNU
"dd" but it´s less secure) which can overwrite the unused disk space of a
device,
SMEM the only one which securely overwrites the RAM.
I will try to find out the license for THC SECURE DELETE, but I know it is
for example
included in F.I.R.E http://fire.dmzs.com/ so I think distribution is
allowed.
What do you think about that?
Thanks, Clemens
