For the same reason that it is not in the official 2.4 kernel yet.

I have tested several machines with "cheap" audio chipsets where even
the newest ALSA modules caused a dead freeze (IO completely dead, keyboard
not working, even reset button not working on some notebooks).

I prefer stability, and rather have no sound than a completely frozen
system in case of a "bad" soundcard.
