[debian-knoppix] Knoppix-light double-detecting SCSI disks

Hi,

as some of you people might know, I have been working on a
Knoppix-light. My goal is to have a lightweight, non-graphical rescue
system that fits on a business card CD.

I have been fairly successfully doing so, by uninstalling a bunch of
packages and replacing the -xfs kernel with 2.4.19-ac4 (to get support
for later promise hostadapters), but there is a slight problem.

The system showing the current problem has the following configuration:

- A Tyan mainboard with i845 chipset
- P4 2,4 GHz
- 512 KB RAM
- Knoppix running off a IDE CDROM
- A Tekram SCSI Hostadapter using the ncr53c8xx driver
- A single Seagate 18 GB disk on ID 14.

My knoppix-light seems to severely misdetect the SCSI subsystem:
root@0[root]# cat /proc/scsi/scsi

root@0[root]#

Ths un-modified KNOPPIX 3.1 (10-10-2002-EN) that I have used to build
knoppix-light correctly detects the single disk:
root@0[root]# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: CREATIVE Model: CD5233E Rev: 1.00
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02

Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03

An older "Knoppix light" with 2.4.19-xfs correctly detects the disks,
as does a kernel 2.4.19-ac4 installed on the local disk.

I suspect that there might be a problem with SCSI emulation and kernel
2.4.19-ac4. Is that possible? Any hints would be appreciated.

Greetings
Marc
