Package: firmware-linux
Version: 0.43
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

please reconsider bug #603775. That bug asked to include ihex2fw,
to make it easier to install firmware from the vanilla linux
sources that have been removed in Debian.

When he closed that bug, Ben Hutchings assumed that
everybody who has to install firmware from the kernel also has the
vanilla kernel sources installed, so that ihex2fw doesn't need to
be built from kernel sources in a Debian package.

I, for one, didn't need the kernel sources, before I wanted to use
my monitor USB hub (which asks for the ti_3410 firmware that is
removed from the Debian kernel, but included as .ihex in the
Debian mspdebug package as well as the upstream sources).

Installing mspdebug (from Debian main) is the easiest way to get
my firmware. Also, since the kernel sources are in github, it is
very easy to download just the needed file.

Please consider including ihex2fw, to make our lives easier.

Thanks
Michael
