It would be great to identify the relevant change that is maybe can be
backported to 6.12.y.

Do I remember correctly that a reboot fixes the issue? If so I'd still
be interested to test reloading drivers without a reboot. Would you be
open for a more interactive debug session via irc?
If yes, but you don't do irc already, the easiest option is probably
using

(just pick a nickname, connect and prod me by writing something
containing "ukleinek". With a bit of luck our waketimes intersect enough
(I'm in UTC+2).
