Package: src:linux Version: 6.12.19-1 Severity: important X-Debbugs-Cc: shannyodo@yahoo.fr Dear Maintainer, After a full upgrade, the greeter/desktop environment would not start. The tty is displayed so I can access the basic shell, but trying to start plasma-wayland xiyh a command initially returned the error following error: org.kde.startup: "kdeinit5_shutdown" QList() exited with code 255 Turns out the $DISPLAY environment variable was not set. Trying to set it manually, the desktop starter would just hang. Trying to start the X / Xwayland server alone would return a failure to detect the display. This is specific to this kernel, rolling back to 6.12.17 everything works fine. Screen model: Microstep MAG 27CQ6F/CD9M124401548 I can't provide kernel log with the reportbug program due to how sudoer is set, I usually use pkexec or su . I there another way to transmit the logs if that's useful ? Let me know if you need more informations. It is! I tried to reproduce this by following the instructions at <https://rocm.docs.amd.com/projects/install-on-linux/en/latest/install/quick-start.html>. During the process /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-amdgpu.conf was created and then removed. I found that the amdgpu-dkms postinst script does: # # Prevent modprobe amdgpu by DKMS that may cause black screen during # installation: # 1. Blacklist amdgpu # 2. Build and install amdgpu kernel module # 3. Remove amdgpu from blacklist # 4. Install an initramfs hook that copies F/W to the early initramfs # 5. Generate new initramfs # echo "blacklist amdgpu" >/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-amdgpu.conf "$POSTINST" "$NAME" "$CVERSION" "/usr/share/$PACKAGE_NAME" "$ARCH" "$2" rc=$? rm -f /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-amdgpu.conf This is trying to ensure that blacklist-amdgpu.conf always gets cleaned up, but: 1. This script starts with "set -e", so if the "$POSTINST" script fails then this script exits immediately. 2. If the system loses power or crashes while "$POSTINST" is running, there is nothing to clean up the file. A fix for these would have to: 1. Change the "$POSTINST" invocation so that failure is non-fatal. 2. Write the configuration file under /run/modprobe.d/ instead. It's not totally clear to me where this should be reported to AMD, but I will try at <https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/> once I can log in there again. In any case, this is not a bug in any Debian package so should not be tracked in the Debian BTS.
