No please do not ping regularly, but you might so once a new ethtool
version got released and you got no reaction. I have not seen a new
ethtool release for a while now and last upstream acked and commitedp
atches in the repository are in master branch from january (wonder if
that is indicating some problems).
But maybe Ben knows more.
