Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Nothing in particular. This is on a clean install . The
Ethernet device seems to work fine, and it was used to install
Debian during the netinst process. However, I did not perform
any tests for packet loss, etc. For what it's worth,
these errors were also observed under the 'linux-lts 5.4.40-1'
and 5.6.12.arch1-1 kernels in Arch Linux. This seems to
indicate a problem with the alx driver itself. The manufacturer
lists alx as the driver for its device, but the alx page itself
does not include this particular device as being supported:

	https://support.killernetworking.com/knowledge-base/linux-support/

	https://wiki.linuxfoundation.org/networking/alx

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
add pci=noaer to the kernel command line
	1) edit /etc/default/grub and and add pci=noaer to the line starting with
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. It will look like this:
		GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pci=noaer"
	2) run "sudo update-grub"
	3) reboot

	as described here in a
	possibly related bug report:
	https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1521173

NOTE: I reversed this change for the benefit of this bug report.

	OR

'rmmod alx' after boot without disabling aer at boot

   * What was the outcome of this action?
The errors were suppressed, but the Ethernet card/port no longer
	functions.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Not applicable. This may be related to the following:
	https://askubuntu.com/questions/1219203/error-from-alx-network-driver-since-installing-new-ssd-drive
	and
	https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1521173

However, unlike the above, this problem happens all the time,
and does not seem to be triggered by a reboot, sleep, resume, or
	installing new hardware.

Hi

This bug was filed for a very old kernel or the bug is old itself
without resolution.

If you can reproduce it with

- the current version in unstable/testing
- the latest kernel from backports

please reopen the bug, see https://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control
for details.
