open two virtual desktops each with a terminal session on the first terminal start top on the second terminal start a kernel compilation with "make -j" switch back to the first terminalyou can see a high load with compiler runs for a short time, but it seems that make is not able to start new processes until the virtual desktop it is running on is becoming active again
