Package: src:linux Version: 5.18.16-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, I'm usually running Debian stable on my Thinkpad X30 (a 2003 laptop with a Pentium III CPU) but I also regularly try out Debian testing on it to try and make sure I detect breakage before the next release. This is one such breakage: Debian testing seems to work fine with the 5.10 kernel from Debian stable, but when I try to boot with the 5.18 kernel from Debian testing (i.e. `linux-image-5.18.0-4-686-pae`), I get a kernel panic right at the start (the timestamp says 0.3s after the start). I'm not able to copy&paste the message I see on the screen, so I took a photo instead (sorry). There you can see one of the lines says: [0.3<something>] EIP: __switch_to_asm+0x43/0x5c which suggests the kernel panic happened because of a problem in __switch_to_asm. I'm running the `...-686-pae` kernel usually (since the CPU is a Pentium III), but just to be sure, I tried the `...-686` version for older CPUs (i.e. `linux-image-5.18.0-4-686`), and got the same kernel panic. Stefan PS: BTW, while I'm here I should mention that Buster is the best release of Debian for this machine so far. The previous best was a long time ago, just before the switch to KMS (which introduced various regressions on this hardware, some of which were only finally addressed in Buster). So, congrats and thank you! -- Package-specific info: ** Kernel log: boot messages should be attached ** Model information ** PCI devices: 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation 82830M/MG/MP
