I'm aware that Kali is a Debian derivative, but it's (therefor) not Debian.
In the case of the kernel that especially relevant as they use their own 
kernel configuration which can be quite relevant for the outcome.

Can reproduce this on a(n updated) (pure) Debian system?
The latest 5.10 kernel version would be a good target, but a more recent 
kernel from Testing/Unstable or Stable backports would be better.
