Part of the commit msg of 3c7aaaa5fa9f21d101825c68b6c09f2d0aecd371 is:
"Simplest is just to guarantee that nfs4_preprocess_stateid_op,
called with non-NULL cstid, errors out if it can't return a stateid."

It would be interesting to know if a kernel with that commit reverted, makes
the problem go away.
https://kernel-team.pages.debian.net/kernel-handbook/ch-common-tasks.html#s4.2.2
after following 4.2.1 Preparation could help (if you're not familiar with
building a kernel).

The above mentioned commit is part of 5.16.3 and the version before that that
was packaged and uploaded to Debian is 5.16~rc8-1~exp1 which you should be able
to find on snapshot.debian.org.
If the issue doesn't occur with either the reverted commit or with version
5.16~rc8-1~exp1, then it's likely that the mentioned commit is the culprit.

  Diederik
