Package: src:linux
Version: 3.16.7-ckt11-1+deb8u3
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I can reliably trigger a kernel oops when loading snd-hda-intel on 3.16.0-4-686-pae kernel.

   * What led up to the situation?

When using the linux-image-3.16.0-4-686-pae kernel on boot the snd-hda-intel module is not loaded. It does output some information in dmesg suggesting it did get loaded then was unloaded or crashed. Running modprobe snd-hda-intel causes an instant kernel oops. The system is still usable but is then unstable, and the module cannot be removed (it says its in use) and sound does not work.

Note this problem also existed on my older ASRock motherboard. I believe its a problem with this particular GeForce card.

Using NVidia proprietary driver 340.65-2 .

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

Using the older 3.2.0-4-686-pae kernel works

   * What was the outcome of this action?

Kernel oops, with the following output:

Expected snd-hda-intel to load and to find the HDMI audio output, and to setup the alsa cards.
