The system is a file server, sharing a 4,5TB ext4 partition via NFS.  Is was installer a couple weeks ago (and was very stable), but it "panic-ed" twice since it became 
a file server last week.

Coincidence or not, both hangs ocurred on days of low usage (a holiday and a weekend).

Hardware description:

CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E31280
Motherboard: Intel S1200BTL (Intel C204 chipset)
Memory: 16Gb

Assuming the issue is not anymore reproducible on recent kernels I'm 
going to close this bugreport by now to clean up the list of src:linux
bugs from very old issues. In case you can reproduce the issue feel
free to reopen the bug.
