This version works with a generated shorewall rule set. Booting under 4.19.0-14-amd64 causes the shorewall rule set to not start.
The Shorewall firewall uses a construct like

to test each variable defined address to see if it is valid on startup. An example from our shorewall install is INET_POSTFIX_SP above.
The script earlier declares g_tool to be iptables. This construct runs fine on a full up to date system running linux-image 4.19.0-13-amd64.
It fails when running on 4.19.0.14 giving the Invalid value ... for address variable ... error. At this point, the firewall stops.
I can't say whether it is a kernel issue, shorewall issue, or libc issue but the shorewall software is running fine on fedora kernels at 5.10.11
and CentOS kernels kernel-3.10.0-1160.11.1.el7.x86_64, and of course on 4.19.0.13 without errors. The iptables software appears to be in some
state the refuses to allow roules to be added.
Purging the kernel and rebooting is a work around. The iptables version is 1.8.2-4, shorewall is 5.2.3.2-1 (but the firewall is built on a Fedora
box running shorewall-lite-5.2.8-3.el7.noarch). The libc version is 2.28-10.
