Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I am running buster on a Acer C740 with Intel CPU (initially a Chromebook, but now running only debian).
The system uses coreboot with seabios as payload and does a bios boot (not uefi).

Since Kernel 4.19.0-11 I have the problem, that the screen is unusable aftter blanking the screen (e.g.
by suspend). After the suspend the screen is black with flashes about every second. This happens
for the graphical screen (X) and the text console. However, the system is still working and reachable by ssh.
I found nothing special in the logs.

Th problem seems not to be caused by the xserver. It hapens also, when no xserver is running. I also tried
the intel server and the modesetting server with the same result.

The only way to get the screen back is rebooting the system. I tried the newest backport kernel
linux-image-5.9.0-0.bpo.2-amd64 but found the same problem. Only switching back to
linux-image-4.19.0-9-amd64 (and all previous versions) solves the problem.

I had a similar problem when upgrading to Buster, which only affected the text console. It could be partly solved
by adding "i915.fastboot=1" as boot parameter. This way, the text console was usable after boot or after switching
from X to e.g. vt1. However, after the first screen blanking the text console was not usable anymore (black with
flashes every second). As X was not affected, it wasnt a big problem.

However, beginning with kernel 4.19.0-11 it also affects X and the system becomes unusable.

Regards,
Jürgen
