package: upgrade-reports, linux-image-3.16.0-4-powerpc tags: powerpc Hi, I've upgraded my old PowerMac from wheezy to jessie, which failed like shown below. On boot now, yaboots boots the correct kernel but then after loading the initramfs the fontsize switches to "gigantic" (8 lines, 25 chars per line or so) and it goes into a systemd rescue environment, I believe. I havent investigated further (it's my last powerpc, about to be decommissioned), so I'm filing this bug report so that this doesnt get lost: Setting up linux-image-3.16.0-4-powerpc (3.16.7-ckt9-3~deb8u1) ... vmlinux(/boot/vmlinux-3.16.0-4-powerpc ) points to /boot/vmlinux-3.16.0-4-powerpc (/boot/vmlinux-3.16.0-4-powerpc) -- doing nothing at /var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-image-3.16.0-4-powerpc.postinst line 263. initrd.img(/boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-4-powerpc ) points to /boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-4-powerpc (/boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-4-powerpc) -- doing nothing at /var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-image-3.16.0-4-powerpc.postinst line 263. /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools: update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-4-powerpc run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/mkvmlinuz exited with return code 20 Failed to process /etc/kernel/postinst.d at /var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-image-3.16.0-4-powerpc.postinst line 634. dpkg: error processing package linux-image-3.16.0-4-powerpc (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of linux-image-powerpc: linux-image-powerpc depends on linux-image-3.16.0-4-powerpc; however: Package linux-image-3.16.0-4-powerpc is not configured yet. dpkg: error processing package linux-image-powerpc (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured Errors were encountered while processing: linux-image-3.16.0-4-powerpc linux-image-powerpc myframe:~# cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 cpu : 7400, altivec supported temperature : 38-40 C (uncalibrated) clock : 466.666665MHz revision : 2.9 (pvr 000c 0209) bogomips : 66.58 timebase : 33290001 platform : PowerMac model : PowerMac3,4 machine : PowerMac3,4 motherboard : PowerMac3,4 MacRISC2 MacRISC Power Macintosh detected as : 69 (PowerMac G4 Silver) pmac flags : 00000010 L2 cache : 1024K unified pmac-generation : NewWorld Memory : 768 MB myframe:~# ls /boot/ System.map-3.16.0-4-powerpc config-3.16.0-4-powerpc initrd.img-3.16.0-4-powerpc vmlinux-3.16.0-4-powerpc System.map-3.2.0-4-powerpc config-3.2.0-4-powerpc initrd.img-3.2.0-4-powerpc vmlinux-3.2.0-4-powerpc cheers, HolgerAttachment: signature.asc

Hi This bug was filed for a very old kernel or the bug is old itself without resolution. If you can reproduce it with - the current version in unstable/testing - the latest kernel from backports please reopen the bug, see https://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control for details. Regards, Salvatore
