Package: src:linux
Version: 4.6.4-1
Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,

after upgrading the meta package 'linux-image-amd64' from linux-image-4.5.0-2-amd64
to linux-image-4.6.0-1-amd64 (and rebooting), my laptop screen started to flicker
annoyingly. At first I thought it was a hardware defect (backlight lamp reaching
its end of life), but booting an Ubuntu or reverting to the 4.5.0-2 does not show
any flickering. The normal terminals (alt-F1 through alt-F6) do not flicker.

My laptop has seen many generations of Linux images while using 'Debian testing',
all without problems, so it must be related to this latest kernel version.
I tried a clean installation of SID (i.e. without explicitly configuring xorg),
but it reproduces the flickering.

The flicker itself looks like an erratic pattern of brightness fluctuations (between
roughly 1 and 10Hz). Sometimes I notice an afterimage of the 'xdm' login screen.
Maybe of importance for narrowing down the bug: I don't use/never used any external
displays, only the normal display of this laptop (in native resolution 1920x1080).

I filed this bug as 'serious', as working with a flickering display is not an option
for me.

I have googled a bit to find if anyone has a similar problem. The only thing I found
were some problematic DisplayPort initialization issues. I don't know, if this is
related, as this was already in kernel 4.3 AFAIR.

I also attached my Xorg.log, as this might contain useful information in tracing down
the bug.
