Package: linux-image
  Version: 3.2.0-2 amd64, 3.2.0-3 amd64, 3.3~rc6-1~experimental, ...

The bug is also with kernesl 3.0, 3.5.2, 3.5.4 self compiled. But this bug is
not with the squeeze kernel 2.6.32.

When I shut down the computer with Power_off then the battery consumption is
about the same that when I suspend the computer (about 45-50mW on a Toshiba
computer). When I shutdown the computer with halt then switch off it (by
hand) or when I reboot it and turn off during grub menu or when I halt this
computer with Windows 7, there is no battery consumption.

In fact,
Boot and halt with:
Windows 7 ---> No power consumption after
Linux 2.6.37-486-PAE ---> No power consumption after
Linux >= 3.0 ---> Power consumption (about 45-50 mW if acpitool is correct)

I try 3.0, 3.1, 3.2.0 (Debian wheezy kernel), 3.3, 3.5.2 and 3.5.4 kernels.
(System is a debian wheezy amd64 with (now) personnal kernel)

I noticed this bug on Toshiba Portege Z830, on Toshiba Satellite A500D, on
Toshiba satellite L775, it seems that this bug is also on VAIO.

First I thinkit was Wake on Lan or Wlan but I verified that it is not the case
(Wake of Lan/Wlan disabled, then erase of wifi modules: no change). I notice
that the consumtion is the same then the consumption of suspend.
I do the test of Halt then Manual power off (by press On/Off button) (no
battery consumption) and a Halt with Power_Off (HALT=poweroff
in /etc/default/halt, battery consumption about 45mW).

I had look on kernel source, it's seems that power off is done by a sample
BIOS call. I do not have enought knowledge of BIOS to really understand this
bug.

I am using Debian GNU/Linux wheezy with (now) 3.5.4 kernel amd64

cf: thread http://lists.debian.org/debian-user-french/2012/08/msg00164.html and
also a message on linux-kernel mailing list).

Hi

This bug was filed for a very old kernel or the bug is old itself
without resolution.

If you can reproduce it with

- the current version in unstable/testing
- the latest kernel from backports

please reopen the bug, see https://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control
for details.

Regards,
Salvatore
