IIRC, it was 'pelwell' that said it, so it's certainly for the RPF kernel. I know there are differences between the RPF kernel and the vanilla one, but I didn't know (and would be surprised) if that would entail not using that overlay. I can (ofc) be wrong. I guess it is worth verifying.
