Bug#925919: linux-image-amd64: linux-image-3.16.0-8-amd64 - unpredictable reboots / kernel panics?

About 8 to 10 of our servers suffered from these issues in the last days. All servers are virtualized on
a vSphere cluster. It happens with amd64 and i386 machines. Our sole non-virtualized server with Debian
8 and linux-image-3.16.0-8-amd64 (Nagios under heavy load) runs stable until now.

One of the affected servers crashes reproducible only a few seconds after the boot process. I thought,
this would be a good candidate for trying the fixed kernel from

Unfortunately this server (Subversion/Apache) runs a i386 system and the one provided kernel is an amd64
package.
