Bug#917290: linux: Wi-Fi fails to connect, Reason: 2=PREV_AUTH_NOT_VALID

The Wi-Fi repeatedly attempts to connect and then drops out with the
syslog message:
mycomputer kernel: wlan0: disassociated from xx:xx:xx:xx:1b:b7 (Reason:
2=PREV_AUTH_NOT_VALID)
See syslog extract attached.

The kernel is compiled, see .config attached.
The problem does not occur with a previous 4.15.11 kernel,see .config
attached.

The message appears to be related to
/usr/src/linux-source-4.18/net/wireless/nl80211.c
