Bug#864878: /boot/vmlinuz-4.9.0-3-amd64: Please enable CONFIG_HPFS_FS as a module

Package: src:linux
Version: 4.9.30-2
Severity: wishlist
File: /boot/vmlinuz-4.9.0-3-amd64

Hello,

it's hard to claim this is important to me since I haven't noticed it was gone until
today. But could you please re-enable CONFIG_HPFS_FS unless there are any reasons
not to do so?

It seems to have been disabled as part of the BKL cleanups a long time ago:

linux-2.6 (2.6.38-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release: http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_2_6_38

  [ Ben Hutchings ]
  * Move firmware-linux-free to separate source package (firmware-free)
  * Move linux-base to separate source package
  * net/can: Enable CAN_SLCAN as module (Closes: #617629)
  * sound: Enable SND_ALOOP as module (Closes: #617869)
  * Remove the Big Kernel Lock:
    - adfs,appletalk,i810,ufs,usbip: Refactor locking
    - hpfs: Disable HPFS_FS
  * ext4: Disable FS_IOC_FIEMAP ioctl temporarily (together with fixes
    for btrfs in 2.6.38, closes: #615035)
  * sched: Build with SCHED_AUTOGROUP, but do not enable autogrouping by
    default (use sysctl kernel.sched_autogroup_enabled=1) (Closes: #618486)
  * Set ABI to 1

  [ Aurelien Jarno]
  * mips/malta-[45]kc:
    - disable ATM, TR, WAN.
    - synchronize options in malta-4kc and malta-5kc.

There has been som real work done on this driver since then, including new
feature support, so it is not in a completely unmaintained state at least.
And it builds fine with the current Stretch kernel, of course. So unless
there is something I miss, I don't really see any reason not to enable it
as a module.

Yes, I do still have a couple of OS/2 Warp disk images leftover from the
90's. Obviously not something I mount every day. About once every decade,
I guess. Looking forward to having Debian suppport then next time I try it
in 2025 or something like that ;-)
