I suppose we could do that.

If CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT is defined you can infer that some version of the
PREEMPT_RT patchset has been applied.  But it is possible, though
unusual, to build with that patchset and select a different preemption 
model...

I see, this is related to tracepoints.  As they aren't intended to be
APIs, it's fine for -rt to be different here.
