Hello Ben,

I did have the documented ICMP network issues when I used the 4.9 version
of the backported kernel.

When I reverted back to the 4.8 version (of the backported kernel),
everything was back to normal.

I am not sure when in the 4.9 series this was fixed but the bug report
explicitly documents 4.9.5. I am not sure what version the backported
kernel + patches corresponds to in the official/mainstream 4.9 kernel.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

Regards,

Narayanan.

Why do you think that 4.9 is affected?  Have you reproduced the bug?
The Red Hat bug report seems to say that only 4.8.x was affected.

Ben.

Any sufficiently advanced bug is indistinguishable from a feature.
