That totally makes sense!

I supose that removing the meta-package is better than leave it there, since it could remain outdated or cause any kind of conflicts, right?

Usually the rt image is provided if there is an rt patch set for the
given kernel version. See
https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/rt/ for available
patches.
