Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686-bigmem
Version: 2.6.26-10
Severity: important

I'm using a Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus hard disk over firewire. This disk uses a power mechanism that is synchronized with PC. When system sleeps or powers off, hard disk turns it off and turns on as soon as you touch the power button of the PC.

Since I'm using always using it, I mount it over fstab via uuid scheme (because some kernel update made the order of device detection a bit random and I don't know if it was fixed). Until the latest kernel update, this scheme was working very well. After this last update, when I wake up my PC from sleep, my firewire disk is re-detected as a new device under /dev and asked if it should be mounted by KDE. I rarely experienced this before but after the last update it became a "behaviour" and clipping the usability of the whole system since I prefer sleeping it or hibernating it.

I'm using debian testing with some irrevelant packages (pidgin, openoffice.org) from unstable and experimental respectively.

The kernel log below shows that my device is detected as sde after wake and re-detected as sdd after unplugging, unmounting the ghost sdd and re-plugging it.

Version: 3.4.1-1~experimental.1+rm

Debian 6.0 Long Term Support is now ending, and the 'linux-2.6' source
package will no longer be updated. This bug is being closed on the
assumption that it does not affect the kernel versions in newer Debian
releases.

If you can still reproduce this bug in a newer release, please reopen
the bug report and reassign it to 'src:linux' and the affected version
of the package. You can find the package version for the running
kernel by running:

    uname -v

or the versions of all installed kernel packages by running:

    dpkg -l 'linux-image-[34]*' | grep ^.i

and looking at the third column.

I apologise that we weren't able to provide a specific resolution for
this bug.

Ben.
