Package: src:linux Version: 4.4.2-3 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, I have an external screen plugged into the VGA socket of my laptop. I rebooted to use the newly installed 4.4 Linux image. GDM still works, I can log in, but then while the X session starts, the system freezes : the mouse pointer is stuck. Pressing NumLock does does not update its LED. Possible workarounds : either - do not attempt to start an X session, press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to stay in textmode - or unplug the external VGA screen and only use the laptop screen - or use linux-image-4.3.0-1-amd64 Starting the X session THEN pluging in the external screen works for a few seconds, then this same bug occurs again. This issue is not specific to Gnome, I tried with Gnome Classic and XFCE and got the very same behaviour. Gnome on Wayland seems usable for a few seconds, one can open a few windows, then the screens blink a few times, then the linux kernel crashes. When the screens blink, sometimes the system seems to be trying buggy video modes. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 4.4.0-1-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 5.3.1 20160205 (Debian 5.3.1-8) ) #1 SMP Debian 4.4.2-3 (2016-02-21) ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-4.4.0-1-amd64 root=UUID=b2a42a70-d64e-4931-aee9-a8294db43ec2 ro quiet ** Tainted: W (512) * Taint on warning. ** Kernel log: [ 2.331620] Copyright(c) 2003- 2015 Intel Corporation [ 2.333235] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC1D0: autoconfig for ALC3232: line_outs=1 (0x14/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0) type:speaker [ 2.333240] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC1D0: speaker_outs=0 (0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0) [ 2.333243] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC1D0: hp_outs=2 (0x16/0x15/0x0/0x0/0x0) [ 2.333245] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC1D0: mono: mono_out=0x0 [ 2.333247] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC1D0: inputs: [ 2.333250] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC1D0: Dock Mic=0x19 [ 2.333252] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC1D0: Mic=0x1a [ 2.333254] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC1D0: Internal Mic=0x12 [ 2.337997] sd 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0 [ 2.338356] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: firmware: failed to load iwlwifi-7265D-19.ucode (-2) [ 2.338362] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7265D-19.ucode failed with error -2 [ 2.338374] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: firmware: failed to load iwlwifi-7265D-18.ucode (-2) [ 2.338377] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7265D-18.ucode failed with error -2 [ 2.338387] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: firmware: failed to load iwlwifi-7265D-17.ucode (-2) [ 2.338391] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7265D-17.ucode failed with error -2 [ 2.338409] [drm] Supports vblank timestamp caching Rev 2 (21.10.2013).
