I've already tried "nomodeset video=1680x1050" (this does not even boot 
because of "nomodeset", I guess), "video=intelfb:mode=1600x1200-24@60" 
as read from here¹ and also "video=inteldrmfb:mode=1600x1200-24@60" 
without success. 

What has worked like a treat is just appending to the kernel line 
"video=1680x1050@60" so the moral of this can be that documentation is 
completely wrong and biased because one can read everywhere that "video"
kernel parameter is not compatible with KMS (!) and also that resolution 
in consoles can be chosen from the ones available from "vbeinfo" 
output (!). Well.
