Then the iwlwifi driver will prefer to use iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode, so why
do you say this is is a bug in -8.ucode?

That was a driver bug, apparently fixed in Linux 3.15.

I don't see how that's possible when the driver prefers
iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode.
